QUEZON CITY, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the First Family on Sunday, June 1, launched the government’s “Pamilya Pass Promo,” a “Buy 1, Get 3 free tickets” initiative for MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2. The program, designed to ease travel expenses for families and groups, will be available every Sunday.

The President, accompanied by First Lady Marie Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos and their children, Senior Deputy Majority Leader Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand Alexander Marcos, Joseph Simon, and William Vincent, rode the MRT-3 from Kamuning Station to North Avenue Station to spearhead the launch. Commuters at the GMA-Kamuning station cheered the First Family, chanting “BBM! BBM! BBM!”

Under the Department of Transportation (DOTr) program, any group of four traveling together can ride the train lines for the price of a single fare, equivalent to the cost of a ticket to the last station. DOTr Secretary Vivencio Dizon clarified that the promo is not limited to families and requires no identification cards for availment.

President Marcos emphasized the Filipino cultural tradition of dedicating Sundays to family. “It is part of Filipino culture that Sunday is for family,” he said, explaining the promo’s aim to facilitate easier city travel for loved ones and friends.

During the launch, the President personally inserted a beep card into the MRT turnstile, while the First Lady and their children used the designated gate for the promo. Before boarding, President Marcos inspected the facility, went through security checks, and personally lined up to purchase tickets. He also took time to explain the program’s mechanics to commuters and the media, shaking hands and taking selfies with passengers.

Secretary Dizon also showed the President the “Mt. Kamuning” footbridge near the MRT station, known for its steepness.

Commuters expressed gratitude for the initiative. Alexander Sebulino, 71, a father of three from Commonwealth, Quezon City, praised the President, saying, “I am very thankful to the President. That is a huge saving!” Another passenger, Editha Albroguera, 55, from Quezon City, with five children, highlighted how the program would reduce their family’s weekly travel expenses for attending mass in Pasay City. A government employee from Manila, a regular LRT and MRT-3 user, also thanked the President, stating, “That’s a big help for us every Sunday, for our family.”

The Department of Transportation has yet to release details on the projected revenue forgo by train operators due to the promo.
