Carlos Yulo wins bronze in Asian championships

Double Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo secured a bronze medal in the men’s individual all-around competition at the Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Jecheon, South Korea, on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
Yulo, competing for the first time in 10 months since his two gold medal performance at the Paris Olympic Games, scored a total of 83.633 points. He finished behind Japan’s reigning Olympic champion Shinnosuke Oka, who captured the Asian title with 85.134 points, and another Japanese gymnast, Tsuyoshi Hasegawa, who took the silver with 83.967 points.
Despite not replicating his gold medal win from last year’s Asian Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Yulo delivered a strong performance. He notably finished first in the floor exercise with a score of 14.433 and topped the vault with 14.5 points. He also placed fourth in the parallel bars (14.167), seventh in the rings (13.633), and tenth in the horizontal bar (13.800). His score in the pommel horse was 13.1, placing him 19th in that apparatus.
Yulo is set to contend for more medals in the coming days, having clinched spots in five of the six apparatus finals, including the floor and vault where he is the reigning Olympic champion.
Other Filipino gymnasts also participated in the men’s individual all-around: Juancho Miguel Besana placed 22nd with 71.167 points, John Ivan Cruz finished 29th with 60.667 points, Justine Ace De Leon was 31st with 59.167 points, and Jhon Romeo Santillan placed 55th with 18.067 points. John Ivan Cruz also secured a spot in the vault final after finishing seventh with a score of 14.133.
The 2025 Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships runs from June 5 to 8.
