Zamboanga Int’l Airport resumes normal operations after bomb threat on Cebu Pacific flight

Zamboanga International Airport swiftly resumed normal operations on Saturday after responding to a bomb threat discovered aboard Cebu Pacific flight 5J851 from Manila.

The incident unfolded at approximately 8:20 AM when a cabin crew member, conducting a routine inspection after passengers had disembarked, found a tissue note in one of the aircraft’s lavatories with the message “may bomba” (there is a bomb). The flight attendant immediately alerted ground security, prompting the activation of established aviation security protocols by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

The Aviation Security Unit (AVSECU9) promptly conducted a thorough inspection of the aircraft, concluding the search by 8:58 AM without finding any explosives. As a precautionary measure, the airport’s Passenger Terminal Building also underwent a paneling operation.

By 8:59 AM, the situation was declared under control, and Zamboanga International Airport resumed normal flight activities, with all passengers cleared for boarding.

CAAP is treating the bomb threat as a serious security concern. The agency reminded the public that bomb threats, regardless of how they are made, are punishable under Presidential Decree No. 1727, which criminalizes the malicious dissemination of false information regarding bombs or explosives.

CAAP reiterated its unwavering commitment to public safety and to providing swift and effective responses to all aviation-related threats, in line with directives from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon to uphold the highest standards of aviation security and passenger protection nationwide.
