As the Philippines observes Father’s Day on Sunday, June 15, 2025, Vice President Sara Duterte has recognized fathers as the “pillars of the homes” who provide security and love for their families. In a video message, Duterte expressed profound gratitude to fathers for their instrumental role in raising disciplined and responsible individuals.

“Your efforts remind us of your grief and love for your family. And this also becomes a good example that inspires young people,” the Vice President said in Filipino, adding, “Thank you for your steadfastness when the family was struggling.Thank you for your guidance during times of uncertainty. Thank you for your love.”

She particularly lauded fathers who “continue to fight, serve, and tirelessly support their families” despite hardships.

The Vice President also took the opportunity to extend a special greeting to her own father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, who is currently detained at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands.

“To former President Rodrigo Duterte, I thank him for his value for me and my education,” the younger Duterte stated. “He had a very big investment in my education and I am returning my immense gratitude for that.”

Sara Duterte previously served as Secretary of the Department of Education and vice chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict under the Marcos administration, before formally resigning from the position on June 19, 2024. She is currently slated to face an impeachment trial in July by senator-judges for alleged misuse of confidential funds and other constitutional violations cited in articles of impeachment transmitted by the House of Representatives to the Senate last February.
