The Israeli military announced on Tuesday that it has killed Major General Ali Shadmani, identifying him as Iran’s wartime chief of staff and the country’s most senior military commander. This claim comes just days after Israel also reported the killing of Shadmani’s predecessor.

In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Shadmani was killed in an overnight strike on a staffed command center located “in the heart of Tehran,” seizing a “sudden opportunity.”

The IDF asserted that Shadmani’s death “adds to a series of eliminations of Iran’s most senior military leadership and degrades the chain of command of the Iranian armed forces.”

There has been no immediate comment from Iran regarding Israel’s claim.

The IDF stated that Shadmani commanded both the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Iranian army, and was considered the closest figure to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He had reportedly been appointed by Khamenei following the death of Major General Gholam Ali Rashid on Friday.
