‘The Devil Wears Prada’ sequel confirmed: Streep, Hathaway, Blunt to reunite

The highly anticipated sequel to the beloved 2006 film ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ is officially in production, with original stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci all confirmed to reprise their iconic roles. Disney’s 20th Century Studios announced the news on Instagram, sharing a teaser image of two red pumps, hinting at the return of the fashion-centric narrative.
Adding to the returning ensemble, Kenneth Branagh is set to join the cast as the husband of Miranda Priestly, the formidable editor-in-chief of Runway magazine portrayed by Streep. David Frankel and Aline Brosh McKenna, the director and writer of the original film, are also returning for the sequel.
The original ‘The Devil Wears Prada,’ based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2004 novel, followed aspiring journalist Andy Sachs (Hathaway) as she navigated the demanding world of a high-gloss fashion magazine under the tyrannical leadership of Priestly. The book itself was a roman à clef, drawing inspiration from Weisberger’s brief stint as an assistant to Vogue‘s Anna Wintour. This sequel announcement comes as particularly timely news, given Wintour’s recent decision to step down as American Vogue‘s editor-in-chief after 37 years.
While specific plot details remain under wraps, reports suggest the sequel’s storyline will see Miranda Priestly navigating her career amidst the evolving landscape and decline of traditional magazine publishing. She is expected to face a new challenge in Blunt’s character, who has risen to become a high-powered executive for a luxury group, controlling advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs. The role of Hathaway’s Andy Sachs, who famously quit Runway for a newspaper job at the end of the first film, is yet to be fully clarified within the new narrative.
‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ is slated for a worldwide cinematic release on May 1, 2026.
