Marcos to sign bill postponing barangay, SK elections to November 2026

MANILA, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is expected to sign a bill that will postpone the December 1, 2025, Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) to November 2026.

According to Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Garcia, the President will approve the measure on August 12. A Palace press officer also confirmed that the President would act on the bill before its deadline, ensuring it becomes law.

The legislation will move the synchronized BSKE to the first Monday of November 2026. A key provision of the new law will also extend the term of office for elected barangay and SK officials from the current three years to four years.
