Personalized student Beep cards with 50% discount to be available in September

MANILA, Philippines – To make student commutes faster and more convenient, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that personalized white Beep cards for students will be available starting next month. The cards will automatically apply a 50% fare discount on the MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2.

The initiative is in response to a directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to improve public transportation for students.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon explained that with the new student Beep cards, students will no longer need to wait in long lines to get their fare discount. “The President’s instruction is that our students’ travel should be fast and convenient so they won’t be late for class. Starting September, they will no longer have a difficult time,” Dizon said during an inspection at the LRT-2 Antipolo Station.
Students can get their personalized cards at any station starting in September. They only need to present their school ID, and the Beep card will be printed on the spot.
Each card is valid for one year, features the student’s name, and is renewable at the start of each school year. The printing process, which previously took five to seven days, will now be significantly faster, allowing students to receive their cards immediately at ticket counters.
Personalized white Beep cards with an automatic 50% discount are also currently available for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
