Netflix is preparing to release a documentary about the Titan submersible, the vessel designed to explore the wreckage of the ill-fated Titanic cruise ship, which tragically imploded in June 2023, resulting in the deaths of all five people on board.

On May 22, the streaming giant unveiled the trailer for Titan: The OceanGate Disaster, set to premiere on June 11.

In its description, the documentary states that it “examines CEO Stockton Rush’s quest to become the next billionaire innovator and the doomed underwater endeavor that called into question the price of ambition in the depths of the ocean.”

“The Titan submersible’s ill-fated journey to the ruins of the Titanic dominated headlines in June 2023, yet the shocking decisions that led to the disaster have never been revealed like this before,” it added.

The 90-second trailer includes footage of the Titan submersible and OceanGate headquarters, images of Stockton Rush and his crew, expert interviews, and audio clips of Rush’s voice.

“There was no way of knowing when the Titan was going to fail, but it was a mathematical certainty that it would fail,” an expert state in the trailer.

“Stockton fully believed that it would work,” another expert says. “He wanted fame. To fuel his ego, fame.”

“I thought Stockton was a borderline psychopath. How do you manage a person like that, who owns the company?” another person says.

Meanwhile, OceanGate employee Bonnie recalls Rush telling her she would be the next lead pilot of the Titan.

“Are you nuts? I’m an accountant,” Bonnie responds.

Near the end of the trailer, Rush’s voice can be heard in a voice-over telling his crew, “No one’s dying on my watch. Period.”

Titan, approximately the size of a minivan, lost communication with its mother ship roughly an hour and 15 minutes into its descent toward the North Atlantic seabed on the morning of June 18. The vessel was equipped with about four days’ worth of emergency support.

After several days of search efforts, the wreckage was discovered a few hundred yards from the Titanic’s resting place.

According to the Marine Board of Investigation, a remotely operated vehicle found the tail cone and other debris on June 22, 2023. The board stated this served as “conclusive evidence” that the submersible suffered a catastrophic implosion.

The victims included Stockton Rush, businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Suleman, British explorer Hamish Harding, and French submarine specialist Paul-Henri Nargeolet.
