The Oklahoma City Thunder are now just one victory away from securing the franchise’s first-ever NBA championship. They defeated the Indiana Pacers 120-109 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Sunday (Monday in Manila), extending their lead to 3-2 in the series. The Thunder will have a chance to clinch the title in Game 6 on Thursday, June 19, in Indiana.

While league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander contributed significantly with 31 points, 10 assists, and four blocks, it was forward Jalen Williams who led the charge for Oklahoma City in Game 5. Williams had an explosive performance, scoring 40 points on efficient 14-of-25 shooting, along with 9-of-12 from the free-throw line. At 24 years old, Williams also achieved a rare feat, recording three consecutive 25-plus-point games in the Finals, joining an elite group that includes Shaquille O’Neal (1995), Dwyane Wade (2006), Kevin Durant (2012), and Kyrie Irving (2016). Aaron Wiggins (14 points) and Cason Wallace (11 points) also provided key scoring off the bench.

For the Pacers, Pascal Siakam delivered a strong 28 points. However, star point guard Tyrese Haliburton, reportedly dealing with a lower-leg injury, struggled, scoring just four points, all from the foul line, and missing all six of his field-goal attempts. T.J. McConnell nearly sparked a comeback with 18 bench points, supported by Obi Toppin (12 points), Aaron Nesmith (14 points), and Myles Turner (13 points).

Oklahoma City held an lead as large as 18 points, while Indiana’s smallest gap was three points. Though the Pacers made a push in the fourth quarter, getting within five points, they were unable to replicate their late-game heroics seen earlier this postseason.

Game 6, where the Thunder can win the championship, is scheduled for Thursday, June 19, at 8:30 p.m. ET (5:30 p.m. PT) in Indianapolis.
