Tropical Storm Danas (formerly Bising) strengthens, continues to traverse western Luzon seas

Tropical Storm Danas, previously identified as “Bising,” has further intensified and is now slowly turning east-northeastward over the sea west of Extreme Northern Luzon. As of 8:00 AM today, July 5, 2025, the storm remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) but continues to be under close surveillance by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
According to PAGASA’s Tropical Cyclone Advisory No. 3, issued at 11:00 AM today, the center of Tropical Storm Danas was estimated at 460 kilometers West of Basco, Batanes (20.1°N, 117.6°E) as of 10:00 AM.
The storm currently packs maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (km/h) near its center, with gustiness reaching up to 90 km/h. Its central pressure is recorded at 994 hPa. Danas is moving east-northeastward slowly, and its strong winds extend outwards up to 330 km from its center.
Marine warnings issued
Mariners are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution or avoid venturing out to sea due to anticipated rough to moderate sea conditions over the next 24 hours:
- Rough seas (up to 3.0 meters) are forecast over the seaboard of Batanes and the western seaboards of Ilocos Norte and Babuyan Islands. Small seacrafts, including all types of motorbancas, are particularly advised against sailing under these conditions, especially if inexperienced or operating ill-equipped vessels.
- Moderate seas (up to 2.5 m) are expected over the northwestern seaboard of Ilocos Sur and the remaining seaboards of Ilocos Norte.
- Moderate seas (up to 2.0 m) are anticipated over the western seaboards of La Union, Pangasinan, and Zambales, as well as the remaining seaboard of Ilocos Sur. Mariners of motorbancas and similarly-sized vessels should take precautionary measures.
Forecast track and intensity
Tropical Storm Danas is forecast to continue its slow northward movement for the next 12 hours before shifting north-northeastward over the sea west of Extreme Northern Luzon. A brief re-entry into the northwestern boundary of PAR is possible by Monday, July 7.
PAGASA anticipates that Danas will further intensify into a Severe Tropical Storm within the next 24 hours. The storm is expected to maintain this strength while passing over the Taiwan Strait. However, a weakening trend is projected for Tuesday as it interacts with the landmass of Eastern China.
