Tropical Storm Crising affects nearly 24,000 in Visayas, Mindanao

Tropical Storm “Crising” has affected a total of 23,918 people, or 7,501 families, across the Visayas and Mindanao regions, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Friday.
In its 6 a.m. situational report, the NDRRMC stated that the affected individuals were recorded across 56 barangays in Western Visayas, Central Visayas, and Soccsksargen, primarily due to widespread flooding. Of the affected population, 117 individuals sought shelter in evacuation centers (38 families in Western Visayas and 77 in Soccsksargen), while an additional 526 people found refuge in other alternative locations.
The storm’s impact also led to various incidents and disruptions in the affected regions. Three rain-induced landslides were reported in Central Visayas, specifically in Barangay Lagtang in Talisay, Cebu, and in barangays Apas and Poblacion Pardo in Cebu City. Overall, 19 flooding incidents were logged in Central Visayas.
Infrastructure also sustained damage, with a total of 23 road sections and two bridges becoming impassable in Western Visayas, Central Visayas, and Northern Mindanao. One house was reported to be totally damaged in Western Visayas, specifically in Barangay Sibalom, Antique, where a power interruption was also reported in one area.
Sea travel was significantly disrupted, with 19 seaports becoming non-operational across Mimaropa, Central Visayas, and Northern Mindanao.
In response to the threats posed by Crising and the Southwest Monsoon (“Habagat”), classes were suspended in 279 areas, and work schedules in 58 areas were likewise halted.
To aid the affected population, assistance valued at P1,247,922 has so far been provided to victims in Western Visayas, according to the NDRRMC.
