Manila, Philippines – A newly formed tropical storm, Emong, has developed northwest of the country and is currently moving southwest, prompting extensive class and government work suspensions for Thursday, July 24, 2025. The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) released the advisory, citing information from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), PAGASA, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Heaviest rainfall expected in western Luzon
PAGASA forecasts that the heaviest rainfall from Tropical Storm Emong is expected to concentrate over Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro. Residents in these provinces are urged to take precautionary measures against potential flooding and landslides.
Government preparedness and crucial safety reminders
All government agencies are reportedly on high alert, with personnel and resources deployed to critical areas in anticipation of Tropical Storm Emong’s impact.
The DILG issued a crucial public safety reminder, strongly advising against any recreational activities near rivers and streams. The agency highlighted recent tragedies, noting that six fatalities from yesterday were linked to individuals drinking near rivers or engaging in swimming bets against strong currents. The public is sternly warned to avoid playing, picnicking, or swimming in rivers and streams to ensure their safety.
