Phivolcs issues tsunami warning for PH coasts following powerful Russia quake

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has issued a tsunami warning for coastal areas facing the Pacific Ocean, following a powerful earthquake off the east coast of Kamchatka, Russia.

In an advisory released on Wednesday, July 30, state seismologists warned of potential tsunami wave heights of less than one meter, expected to arrive between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. today.
Phivolcs strongly advised residents in the following provinces to stay away from the beach and avoid coastal areas:
- Batanes Group of Islands
- Cagayan
- Isabela
- Aurora
- Quezon
- Camarines Norte
- Camarines Sur
- Albay
- Sorsogon
- Catanduanes
- Northern Samar
- Eastern Samar
- Leyte
- Southern Leyte
- Dinagat Islands
- Surigao del Norte
- Surigao del Sur
- Davao del Norte
- Davao Oriental
- Davao Occidental
- Davao del Sur
- Davao de Oro
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and urge the public to remain vigilant and heed the advice of local disaster risk reduction and management councils. Further updates will be released as more information becomes available.
