Marcos unveils website on flood controls, urges citizen audit

MANILA, Philippines – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. officially launched “sumbongsapangulo.ph” on Monday, an innovative online platform designed to enhance transparency and accountability in the nation’s flood control projects. The website provides the public with access to information on ongoing initiatives nationwide and offers a direct channel for citizens to report any irregularities or provide feedback.

During a press briefing at Malacañang, President Marcos emphasized the platform’s user-friendly design, stating, “We put it into a form that is accessible to the public, and most importantly, it is in a form that the public can use so that they can first identify the flood control projects that are within their area.” He added that the platform encourages citizens to share observations, whether positive or negative, regarding project implementation, asking, “If they already have information, they can tell us about it. If the project turned out well, if the project did not turn out well, what was the problem.”

The President underscored the critical role of citizen participation in safeguarding the integrity of the PHP545-billion flood control program, which has been underway since mid-July 2022, marking the start of his term. He stressed that a collective effort is essential for detecting anomalies and ensuring that public funds are utilized effectively.

Marcos affirmed his administration’s commitment to holding accountable those who exploit the system. “Of course, we want the people who have taken advantage of the system to pay… And if there is evidence of corruption, of embezzlement, of any kind of wrongdoing, that’s when we will move,” he stated, reinforcing the government’s resolve to act on credible reports. He further appealed to Filipinos to submit complaints, feedback, and observations via the new website, personally assuring that he would review each submission.

The launch of sumbongsapangulo.ph aligns with the President’s directive during his fourth State of the Nation Address, where he called for a thorough audit of flood control projects. This initiative is a key part of the government’s broader commitment to improving transparency and ensuring accountability in infrastructure spending across the country.
