CELEBRITY BREAKUP
Liza Soberano confirms breakup with Enrique Gil, reveals they separated three years ago

In a candid and emotional revelation, actress Liza Soberano has confirmed that her relationship with actor Enrique Gil ended nearly three years ago. The announcement was made during an appearance on the YouTube podcast-documentary “Can I Come In?” hosted by filmmaker Sarah Bahbah.
Soberano, 27, admitted that she and Gil had been untruthful about their status, stating, “Quen and I broke up. We’ve been broken up for almost three years now.” She described Gil as her first love but explained that she had been “itching to tell people” about the separation.
The actress revealed that the initial decision to keep the breakup private was a mutual one, largely fueled by their fears about the impact on their careers. She confessed that she was afraid their fans, known collectively as “LizQuen,” would no longer support her if they knew the love team had dissolved. Soberano also spoke about how her love team with Gil served as a “safety net” and “armor” that helped her escape poverty and abuse, providing financial stability and a platform for her career.
Soberano’s confirmation brings an end to years of speculation. Rumors of a breakup first circulated in 2022, but both actors repeatedly denied them. In June 2022, Soberano stated they were “totally fine,” and Gil indirectly debunked the rumors with a birthday post for her in January 2023, where he referred to her as his “best friend and baby.” Gil also denied the split in July 2023 and again in February 2024, attributing their distance to their busy schedules.
Soberano’s former manager, Ogie Diaz, had claimed in May 2023 that the couple had broken up, with Soberano reportedly initiating the split to focus on her career in Hollywood. Soberano’s recent confirmation aligns with Diaz’s earlier statements.
Soberano and Gil’s relationship began in 2014, although they only publicly confirmed it in 2019. Throughout their time together, they starred in numerous successful films and series, including Just the Way You Are, My Ex and Whys, Dolce Amore, Make It with You, and Forevermore.
