Hong Kong Set to Benefit from the Resumption of Multiple-Travel Permits for Shenzhen Residents

The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) has expressed its support for the Central Government’s announcement today (November 29) regarding the resumption and expansion of multiple-entry permits for Shenzhen residents visiting Hong Kong, effective from December 1. This move aims to enhance exchanges and strengthen both business and tourism ties between the two regions.

Under the State Council’s new policy, Shenzhen residents with registered residence can now apply for a multiple-entry permit to visit Hong Kong. Additionally, non-permanent residents of Shenzhen who hold a residence permit will also be eligible for the multiple-entry Individual Visit Endorsement.

HKGCC Chairman Agnes Chan remarked, “Amid a sluggish economic recovery and Hong Kong residents venturing north for consumption, the return of the multiple-entry permit will make it more convenient for Shenzhen residents to visit the city. This will inject fresh momentum into sectors such as tourism, food and beverage, and retail while boosting market confidence.”.

As part of the National 14th Five-Year Plan, the Hetao Cooperation Zone is positioned as a key platform for collaboration between Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. It is expected to drive economic growth and create fresh business opportunities by promoting cross-border cooperation between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

Earlier this year, the Central Government introduced several initiatives benefiting Hong Kong, such as expanding the individual visit scheme to more Mainland cities and raising the duty-free shopping allowance for Mainland visitors.

Mainland individual visitors play a crucial role in Hong Kong’s tourism growth, and their increased presence is set to provide a significant boost to the economy. The Chamber will continue to actively promote Hong Kong to attract both Mainland and international visitors, further solidifying the city’s position as a top tourist destination.
